12 days to go till Strange Attractors…
Well summer’s here, or at least festie season has started. We kicked off at Knockengorroch, great, and a bit of mud so you know it’s a proper festival.
Our next big outing is, of course, Strange Attractors, (11th June, Sage Gateshead). We have had a number of super exciting rehearsals with Brian, and the score is now finished (yah!):
Buy Strange Attractors tickets here. Lau will do a full set followed by an interval and then the SA piece.
It is very interesting (conceivably only to us) how the music has developed. All the music in Strange Attractors is based on several initial sessions we had with Brian. In some we focused on writing long melodic lines, without regular pulse or repetition, something of a challenge for folkies. The other sessions revolved around short improvisations based on parameters (tonality, tempo, time signature) generated by various random number generators. All of this material (and there was a fair amount) Brian took back to Belfast. There he selected those passages that intrigued him and orchestrated around them.
The results of this we have now heard in full, and it certainly happified my hearing glands. So far we are rehearsing to samples on playback, but we rehearse with the orchestra on the 10th, and I am taking spare trousers (excited, not scared).
Here are a couple of tasty rehearsal moments I enjoyed, hope you do:
Stravinsky meets strathspey paint-balling in Narnia:
Low down arctic highland space farm blues:
And if you didn’t see the wee video, from the previous post.

I love this music…..amazing….just too much going on and will be elsewhere, unfortunately…….love The Sage too……boo hoo……..Lau more than ever tho’!
sorry for slow reply, really glad you like it, it will happen again, 4th Feb in Glasgow, any good?
These tracks sound awesome, I look forward to hearing more, though sadly I can’t attend the concert next week! Hope you guys keep going well!
Thanks Jen, hope you can make it to another one some time. lau x
