October Tourblog by Tim the soundman
So, the boys have allowed me to step out of the shadows and address the masses – hello masses!
Here’s a view of the last tour from the other end of the room:
Actually, the tour started off without me because I was still in Denmark. I was playing with Mystery Juice at the 40th anniversary of the creation of Christiania. If you’ve never heard of Christiania, it’s a free, anarchist town in the centre of Copenhagen which started when people squatted an abandoned military base. It’s a pretty crazy place at the best of times.
I’ve been there before but when we arrived straight off the plane into the midst of a massive party it was a pretty surreal experience, like stepping onto the set of Star Wars. There are an awful lot of bikes there doing a lot of different jobs. I like this one:
After 5 days of gigs, I returned to the world of Lau who were playing in The Robin 2, Bilston which states that it is “Proud to be the home of prog in the Midlands”. Lau rose to the occasion and wigged out while Martin stuck daggers in the keyboard of his accordion. Next we played at an amazing mansion in Wales where the lord of the manor cooked us a beautiful breakfast before jetting off to Kazakhstan for the day. We went to Cardiff.
In Biddulph we tried some English whisky which was very nice despite our reservations.

He made us drink it all...
In Cambridge we had a lovely gig and then stayed up till breakfast time playing tunes. Then I went to Asturias in Spain to play a gig with Lord Rochester. I was there for less than 24 hours which is a criminal state of affairs. I didn’t even drink any cider.
I did, however, see this band. Very nice.

Our last gig was in the beautiful Hailsham Pavilion after which we drove home. It’s a long way from Sussex to Edinburgh…

Nice one Tim, we look better from further away…
How did the boys manage while you were swanning off to do other things? Acoustic sets? Christiania looks ace x
Yeah, we just had to play really loud through massive trumpets like the good old days. Could have done with that PA on a bike that Tim saw in Denmark.

At the last two Lau gigs I’ve been to, I thought the soundman looks a lot like the frontman from Mystery Juice and your blog confirms it! I remember a couple of great Mystery Juice gigs in Chester, but that was a few years ago. Any chance of a return?
Mark
I’ll pass it on to Tim
